The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born today, January 15, 1929. A noted civil rights activist, a proponent for non-violent protest and anti-war activist, in October, 1964, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize by His Majesty, King Gustav VI Adolph of Sweden. 

He was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
